Welcome to Fort Lauderdale

updated - May 11, 2012

Fort Lauderdale is defined by the waterways and coastal beaches that traverse this beautiful south Florida haven. Described as the "Venice of America" it does, indeed, live up to its name.

The New River and tributaries help infuse the downtown giving life to restaurant and shopping districts like the Riverwalk.

Much of Fort Lauderdale is composed of finger-like isles that are bordered by canals - canals almost everywhere. Is it any wonder Fort Lauderdale is also dubbed "The Yachting Capital of the World"?

Speaking of boats, Fort Lauderdale is also home port to many cruise ships that make weekly sojourns to the Caribbean and elsewhere via Port Everglades.

Fort Lauderdale - Venice of America

Favorite spots include the Las Olas district - Las Olas Blvd between 6th and 11th Avenues - where fine dining, boutique shopping and art galleries create an impressive mix.

Riverwalk is just that, about a mile and a half of boardwalk that runs alongside the New River and buttresses numerous landmarks and sites.

Long gone are the Spring Break crowds that once mobbed the beaches of Fort Lauderdale - too beautiful to be viewed with blurred vision. Ocean boulevard runs along most of the beach and can get congested at times.
